The 12th Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (ACPID) was held in Bandung, Indonesia,from August 1 4 to 16, 2026,. As a leading academic platform for pediatric infectious disease in Asia, the congress brought together pediatricians, researchers, and public health professionals from multiple countries and regions to exchange insights on priority issues in child health, including vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance, while exploring challenges and innovative solutions in the prevention and control of pediatric infectious disease.
During the congress, Dr. Tao Zhu, Chief Scientific Officer of CanSino Biologics Inc. ("CanSinoBIO"), shared updates on the company's research and development progress and international strategy in meningococcal vaccine. He highlighted CanSinoBIO's continued commitment to driving innovation in vaccine development, strengthening immunization protection, and contributing to global efforts in infectious disease prevention and control.
Dr. Zhu noted that infectious disease prevention and control remain a critical global public health priority. Addressing evolving needs in pediatric infectious disease prevention requires not only technological breakthroughs and product innovation, but also continuous improvements in vaccine protection and accessibility based on public health priorities. CanSinoBIO's Group ACYW135 Meningococcal Polysaccharide Conjugate Vaccine (CRM197 carrier) , Menhycia® (MCV4) , was approved in 2021 as the first quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine authorized in China and has also secured marketing approval in Indonesia. Currently, CanSinoBIO is is advancing studies to expand the indicated population of Menhycia® (MCV4), to extend the applicable age range from children aged 3 months to 6 years to individuals aged 3 months to 17 years.
To address disease prevention needs in the Asia-Pacific region, CanSinoBIO continues to deepen its International collaboration. In Indonesia, the Company has advanced the overseas launch and commercial-scale supply of Menhycia® (MCV4), while conducting clinical studies to expand its indicated population and support broader application of the vaccine to meet local immunization needs.
During ACPID, CanSinoBIO also convened a closed-door meeting invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) surveillance and policy translation in the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Shoubai Chao, Chief Operating Officer of CanSinoBIO, and Dr. Tao Zhu joined regional experts in pediatric infectious diseases, vaccines, and public health for in-depth discussions on key topics including the disease burden of IMD, surveillance system development, vaccination strategies, and regional collaboration. The meeting sought to support the development of a Southeast Asian network of experts in pediatric infectious disease and vaccine experts in Southeast Asia, laying the foundation for refining an IMD surveillance frameworks, support the development of expert consensus, and strengthen regional cooperation in disease prevention and control.
